Colonel Edwin E. Tuhy

Colonel Edwin E. Tuhy is the Commander, 173rd Medical Group, 173rd Fighter Wing, Kingsley Field Air National Guard Base, Ore. As the Commander, he leads a diverse group of health care professionals to assure proper health management, medical readiness and performance enhancement of over 900 Guard and Active Duty members, enabling the 173rd Fighter Wing to accomplish the mission of training all Active Duty and Air National Guard F-15C pilots. The Medical Group also assists the State of Oregon in disaster response operations and the supports the Nation through the augmentation of patient triage, transport and decontamination capabilities of the United States Air Force.


Colonel Tuhy is a 1988 graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry. Colonel Tuhy joined the Oregon Air National Guard’s 173rd FW in 2002 and immediately became integral to the medical aspects of training of the world’s best air-to-air combat pilots. Prior to assuming command, his additional duties centered on medical readiness, unit inspections and disaster response planning at the local and state levels.

In his civilian capacity, Colonel Tuhy maintains an optometry practice. In 2010, Colonel Tuhy served as the Officer in Charge for a medical disaster response seminar held in Dhaka, Bangladesh under the State Partnership Program. He has led numerous military and civilian humanitarian missions to Eastern Europe, Africa and throughout Latin America. Most recently Colonel Tuhy traveled throughout CENTCOM as he deployed in advisory support of Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL. Prior to his current position, Colonel Tuhy was Chief of Optometry Services, 173rd Medical Group, Kingsley Field Air National Guard Base, Ore.
