173rd FW 2017 Airmen of the Year

The annual award winners for the 2017 173rd Fighter Wing Airmen of the Year were announced.  

  • Airman of the Year, Category I is Senior Airman Daniel A. Fry from the 173rd Security Forces Squadron.
  •  Airman of the Year, Category II is Tech. Sgt. Michael B. McCormick from the 173rd Civil Engineering Squadron.
  • Airman of the Year, Category III is Master Sgt. Brian M. Monson from the 173rd Maintenance Group.
  • First Sergeant of the Year is Master Sgt. Laduska A.R. Miller from the 173rd Operations Group.

"These individuals have set high standards, are role models and have encompassed our “No Slack” values," said Col. Jeff Smith, 173rd FW commander.  "Each will compete at the state level for overall Airman of the Year in their respective category."

Additionally, the category winners for the unit levels were also announced.

173rd FW Command Section:

  • Airman of the Year, Category I is Senior Airman Cody Christman
  • Airman of the Year, Category II is Staff Sgt Penny Snoozy
  • Airman of the Year, Category II is Master Sgt. Casey Grimes

173rd Mission Support Group

  • Airman of the Year, Category I is Senior Airman Daniel Fry
  • Airman of the Year, Category II is Tech. Sgt. Michael McCormick
  • Airman of the Year, Category II is Master Sgt. Justin Schultz

173rd Medical Group​

  • Airman of the Year, Category I is Senior Airman Melinda Duran
  • Airman of the Year, Category II is Staff Sgt. Kendall Nielsen
  • Airman of the Year, Category II is Master Sgt. Rene Horne

173rd Maintenance Group

  • Airman of the Year, Category I is Senior Airman Tyler Wagner
  • Airman of the Year, Category II is Staff Sgt. Sam Whitlach
  • Airman of the Year, Category II is Master Sgt. Brian Monson

173rd Operations Group 

  • Airman of the Year, Category I is Senior Airman Jesse Harris
  • Airman of the Year, Category II is Tech. Sgt. Kayla Mckenzie
  • Airman of the Year, Category II is Master Sgt. Steven Bitzer

  • Chester McCarty: Maintenance - Tech. Sgt. Christopher L.Whiteley of the 270th Air Traffic Control Squadron
  • Chester McCarty: Operations -  Master Sgt. James H. Schols of the 173rd Operations Support Squadron
  • Chester McCarty: Logistics - Tech. Sgt. Jeremy G. Gibson of the 173rd Logistics Readiness Squadron
