    Twelve Airmen from the 173rd Fighter Wing departed Kingsley Field on September 12, 2020, to support firefighting operations in Central Oregon. In the week building up to this activation, wildfires broke out along the U.S. West Coast, displacing more than 40,000 in Oregon alone, with up to 500,000 on “high alert”.
  • Air Force announces Oregon Air National Guard locations at Portland and Klamath Falls for New F-15EX

    The Oregon Air National Guard received news Friday from the Secretary of the Air Force regarding the Air Force’s plans to replace the Oregon Air National Guard’s aging F-15C/D Eagles at both Oregon wings with the newly updated F-15EX model. Kingsley Field, Oregon in Klamath Falls, is scheduled to transition to the Air Force’s first F-15EX formal training mission beginning in 2024, and the Portland Air National Guard Base is scheduled to become the first operational F-15EX squadron in 2025.
  • 173rd FW expands emergency response capability

    The 173rd Fighter Wing has upgraded its emergency operations center, expanding the square footage amid the COVID-19 pandemic in late July 2020. Previously, emergency operations staff met in a room that could barely contain all the work stations, phones, computers, binders, a printer, numerous display screens and boards, not to mention people.

    The Oregon Air National Guard is scheduled to continue flying multiple F-15 Eagle flyovers over hospitals and other locations throughout Oregon Friday, May 22 and Monday, May 25 in order to salute Oregonians on the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic, lift morale during a time of severe health and economic impacts, and remember those brave service members who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
